“Why Would God…?”

I recently read a post supporting an evolutionary worldview because they could not believe in a God who would allow rape and child abuse.

This struck me as a profound deficiency of reason as the blogger by default of the post took the position that there is no solid foundation for ethics or morality. Their worldview is one that makes rape or abuse immoral only if we can get enough public support to deem them as such.

In direct contrast, a Biblical worldview holds to a loving, righteous, and perfectly moral and holy God who decries rape and abuse to the extent He has instituted governments for the purpose of executing judgement. His holy vengeance for such crimes even demands the death penalty! (Deut. 22:25)

The Law was revolutionary in that it protected the innocent and deemed all people of the greatest value and dignity because of the simple fact that they are precious creations of the Lord God.

An evolutionary worldview considers humanity a chemical/biological accident of random chance mutations. Morality and the value of an individual is completely up to public opinion polls. Hence CBS News’s 2017 report of Iceland killing nearly 100% of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome. (cbsnews.com/news/down-syndrome-iceland/)

How do you answer questions about pain and suffering? If you know the Book, then you know the answers. The key is God’s opening letter to us – the book of Genesis. It answers those questions through the accurate, historical account of Creation and Adam & Eve.

Here we see the greatest truth ever revealed – the desire of the Creator to have a relationship with His creation. But the definition of a relationship is a mutual involvement, dependence, and affinity for each other. It works both ways. If one controls the other’s decisions or takes away the ability to choose, then you do not have a relationship – you have a tyrant, a despot. The relationship is also devoid of love.

None of us want a relationship like that, for how does someone know you love them? You show it (i.e. you choose to). God created Adam & Eve with perfect minds and bodies, gave them a perfect place in which to live, and then said they could do anything they wanted; just go enjoy! That’s how God showed them His love. Out of appreciation, they in return wanted to show God their love. He made it so simple! They could eat of any tree in all the world, but if they wanted to show their love for Him, they would refrain from eating of just one tree.

Consequently, anytime someone has a choice, they can make a bad choice. The worst thing is the consequences may affect people other than yourself. This is why God instituted government, the Church, and family. The Church and family are to teach morality; the government is to bring judgement upon the violators.

If becoming a Christian meant an end to pain, suffering, and hardship, why then would people choose Christ? Out of love for the Creator and His gift of the Savior? No way. Becoming a Christian would simply be the premium on their non-suffering insurance. There is no love or relationship there.

Praise God for His sovereignty!
Praise Him that while we still choose to reject Him, He still offers Christ to restore our relationship! (Romans 5:8)
Praise Him that we DO NOT get what we deserve, but instead receive grace and eternal life! (Rom. 5:1-11)
Praise Him for comforting and strengthening us through hardships! (II Cor. 1:3-7)
Praise Him for working everything out for good (Rom. 8) and for the great rewards of an eternal relationship in Heaven! (Matt. 5:10-12)

Here we are again, just a few days before Christmas. It seems the old adage, “The older you get the faster time flies,” is so true. There is not a year that passes when we look back and think, “Wow, this year took forever!” History is passing by and we look forward to the new year as we continue to focus on our eternal destiny. Our theme this year has been, HISTORY & DESTINY. Christmas is a great time to reflect on these two realities. Everyone has “Christmas history”, as I term it - those moments from past Christmases that are remembered year after year. Maybe it’s a great family gathering or Christmas activity that has become a beloved tradition. All of those moments are formed by previous years’ experiences. Sometimes this season can be tough, as we may have that memory of a loved one that has passed or other difficulties that we may be facing. Christmas history is always impactful, be it good or bad. This makes me reflect on the first Christmas. For Mary and Joseph, there was no previous history like that moment, per se. Yet, the history of the prior four thousand years had been preparing for the manger, the moment in history that our Savior would be born and begin Christmas history for all of us. Whether it is acknowledged or not, without Jesus’ birth in history, none of this season happens. Each and every Christmas our desire is to make those “Christmas history” memories for our family. Our desire is to impact the future of our family, our destiny. Often our efforts fall short or are interrupted by things out of our control. In those moments, so much stress can come from our efforts not going as planned. Sometimes it ends up ruining the whole season, especially if our focus has not been on the simple fact that He was born to bring peace, not stress. Let us not forget that it didn’t start the way Mary and Joseph had planned, with no room in the inn. But the Lord provided a place for them to rest and deliver the baby. Immanuel, God with us, is the bell ringing for all eternity that started that first Christmas. Our eternal destiny hinges on whether we acknowledge who He is everyday, not just in this season. Yet, this season is most assuredly a great time to emphasize His gift of life for all eternity. Our Creator became as one of His image bearers in that stable under imperfect conditions. He joined HISTORY and DESTINY that moment in time. The years of history that prepared the world for the child born that first Christmas would give us hope for all eternity. Jesus is the marker for all history. Because of that moment in time, our life can have peace for eternity through Him. May we all focus on the culmination of HISTORY & DESTINY during our family Christmas celebrations this year. Our history is written but our destiny is hope in Jesus Christ, our Creator and Savior. Blessings this season to you and your family from all of us here at Creation Truth Foundation!
